The process of stump grinding uses a self-propelled machine known as a “stump grinder” to grind a tree stump into mulch-like wood chips. This machine can access front yards, side yards, and backyards alike to knock out any project you may have. During the grinding process, topsoil is also ground up with these wood chips. Woods Stump Removal grinds the stump itself and all surface roots a minimum of 6” below grade to ensure that the tree stump and roots are completely dead, that way shoots do not continue to pop up in your yard or landscaping.

Woods Stump Removal can grind as deep as 24” below grade if necessary, in the case of grinding out the entire stump/root ball for a replanting of the area. After the stump and surface roots have been ground out, the mulch-like wood chips and topsoil are raked back over the hole that was just made during grinding. Every job site is cleaned up neatly and blown clean.

This totally depends on the size of the stump and how many there are. Depending on the size of the project, it could take as little as 10 mins and as much as an entire day. Austin will be sure to let you know the timeline he expects the project to take prior to starting.

In some cases, fences will need to be removed, and in other cases, the stump can be ground out without the removal of the fence. This is dependent on how close the stump is to the fence. There is a solution for every problem!

The chips and topsoil get used to backfill the hole made from grinding out the stump. They are raked up neatly and put back into the hole where they will settle over time!

There will be a hole from grinding, but that hole will be backfilled with the topsoil and wood chips produced from the grinding. We will not leave a big hole in your yard!

Pulling a stump out with a truck, excavator, etc. will leave a much larger hole and mess in your yard because this typically pulls the roots up with it. Those roots can spread 10, 20, or even 30 feet underground from the stump. This leaves you with a destroyed area of your yard that is much larger than it would be from grinding the stump out. With grinding, we use a much more precise and surgical procedure that kills the stump and roots and ensures you will not continue to get shoots popping up in your yard or completely destroy your yard either.

No problem! We have ground many stumps between living trees, bushes, and shrubs in the past. We are careful to not damage any other root system of other trees. Our stump grinder allows us to be very precise during the grinding process!

Preferably 6 ft tall or less, but we can handle taller than that in certain cases!
